ImprovEd Shakespeare’s
HAMLET
Spring, 2016
After low enrollment in the fall of 2015, I (Andee Kinzy) thought it might be time to end the homeschool production class. When I started to spread the word, amazingly, the homeschool community didn’t want the program to die. We ended up with a troupe of eighteen. Admittedly, this is an awkward number: too few to divide into two troupes, so many, that it’s hard to cast. But despite the odds, this cast developed a production full of humor and fun. Yes, Hamlet can be funny. We were welcomed back to Sherwood Forest Faire and were able to squeeze in a performance at Austin Scottish Rite Theater, thanks to the Daughters of the Nile who ended their meeting early so we could get into the space. We were so lucky they could fit us in, because due to a high number of reservations, we outgrew our other performance space. Finally, the Baron’s Men invited us to perform at their annual student days during the Lysts on the Lake Jousting Tournament. The generosity of the Baron’s Men gave these kiddos the opportunity to perform Shakespeare on a replica of the Curtain Theatre stage!
