WHO IS ANDEE KINZY?
Andee is an acclaimed writer, producer, director, and educator renowned for her innovative approach to the arts. With over thirty years of experience working with youth in theatre and film, Andee brings a wealth of knowledge and creativity to her role as the founder and director of ImprovEd Arts.
Drawing upon her diverse background in drama, Andee holds a B.A. in Drama from the University of Texas and has trained extensively at institutions such as the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC. Her training encompasses a broad spectrum of techniques, including Suzuki, Viewpoints, Alexander Technique, Method Acting, the Meisner Technique, and Improvisation.
Andee’s passion for storytelling extends beyond the stage, as she has written, produced, and directed numerous original short films, including the documentary “What Is It About Hats? A Documentary About People Under the Brim” and the award-winning short film “Shame Full.” She is also the creative force behind the web series “ImprovEd Shakespeare’s Global Hamlet,” which showcases youth from around the world.
As a dedicated advocate for gender equality in entertainment, Andee served as the Festival Director for the Girl Improved Film & Television Festival, inspiring girls and nonbinary youth to challenge stereotypes and amplify their voices in the industry.
Andee has led workshops and productions on Shakespeare for Kids in various cities across the globe, including San Francisco, Philadelphia, Berlin, Bangalore, and Melbourne. Her collaborative approach to teaching empowers students of all ages to explore their creativity, enhance critical thinking skills, and build confidence in their artistic abilities.
With a commitment to fostering a love for language and a sense of achievement in her students, Andee’s classes and workshops are designed to ignite creativity and spark imagination. Whether in school settings, community centers, or theatre programs, Andee’s dynamic and engaging teaching style creates a supportive environment where every child can shine.
In addition to her work with youth, Andee is actively involved in supporting women in the film industry, having served on the boards of organizations such as CineWomen NY and WIFT Austin. She also volunteers her time mentoring aspiring filmmakers and participating in industry events such as the Austin Film Festival’s grant awards program and SXSW.
